Norway Sucks {A few thoughts on Norway}

Ah, where to begin.
Norway is indeed beautiful, and really does not have a big populace - so it seems you would be amazed at how silly the government there can be.

I am Norwegian by the way, at least I have a good chunk of Norwegian blood flowing through my veins. I bet I have more ‘pure’ blood in my right toe than most of the people in the country.
Move over king, get your a** out the seat Im taking over. lol

It is amazing from what I have read it seems that Norway is trying to, for lack of better terms, ‘import’ people from the surrounding countries to help boost the population. In fact Norway has a lot of muslims as well. From all appearance they either are or soon will be one of the largest minority groups in Norway. - But wait, they will be Norwegians, after all they will have to learn Norwegian.

Whats funny is they have two official versions of the language. They cant make up their mind you see. What it boils down to is that Norwegian is a rip off from Danish and they want to make themselves stand apart from the Danes and tweak the language enough to make it pop out and seem unique. (and confusing while you try to figure out which of the official languages to learn.)

Also, they are not a member of the E.U. Now their former rulers (excuse me if this offends the ‘neo norwegian’) the Swedes are in the E.U. I guess cause they see the value in unity.
Now Norway on the other hand wants to feel like a nation, they want to have their own collective pride. See those who often try harder do so because they are trying to prove something they are not. (Dont see me flipping over backwards to prove how Norwegian I am. I have what blood I have, and thats that.)

Really this whole ego bit is seen well by looking at Norway.
Like the latest bit of info. As of Jan 1, 2008, a publicly held company must have 40% women on the board regardless of skill. They didnt put a quota for how many men must be on the board…and from what one guy said, his bosses are women, and their bosses are women…and he aint going no where.

Am I male chauvinist. Not in the least. But you cannot make change by forcing it on people. If these women are all that talented, then set up a grant, a fund, venture capital and lets see what they can do with it. Why go where they are not wanted? If they arent already there its one of three reasons.

1) Not talented enough
2) There are male chauvinist in the company
3) They are not known

1) Then dont hire them in the first case
2) Why would they want to work here in the second case
3) Set up some kind of program that gets them known

Best of all, get them to start up their own companies. They are these great thinkers, let them do it. I draw this issue with any group of people calling foul. Whether it be those who claim it based on their sexual preferences, their skin color, or sex…This is silly.

Again, Norway has a great idea but goes about the wrong way in how to implement it.
Well, I suppose there is no ‘wrong’ way, however this method can create the opposite desired effect. A man who is as talented is passed up because they feel they must have an equal amount of sexes on the board. Yes, yawn, you will say…that will be the day. Well the day is here.

You dont make change by flipping the coin around. You get creative and think out the box. Do things in a different way, not the same way that created the mess to begin with.

Ah, only if I could claim some descendent to royalty in Norway, some lost lineage that has the right to the throne…I would go there and try a thing or two. :)

Norway, loosen up. Get over your patriotism…its ‘old energy my friends’.
Get over your uptightness and forcing policy. Get some money together and build a big ’sun lamp’ to help you guys get some happy vibes - that cold dark weather must be getting to you!

Yes this is a rant…I dont hate the good people of Norway, but it has surprised me to learn at their means and methods which are kind of anti-global. Again, having women in the board is not anti-global, but quotas do not work. Some may argue that it helps break the ice to get people used to something they were not used to before. It could. But I still say there are alternative, fun routes to make change…and the ‘old energy’ male chauvinist attitude will dry out on its own.

See, if women dont seek to be put in a position to prove they should be in there, or whatever, and just concentrated on what they truly enjoyed - given the funds and grants (what-not) to do this…then these companies would squash the competition that did not want to hire them.

Now, on the other hand, if they not qualified, then it wont do a thing - But anyway.

peace

dAlen - rightful king of Norway - but my rule will be from the tropics. :)

p.s. - not to mention that Norway just made whaling legal again.
Green Peace and Sea Shepherd are chasing the Japanese Whalers (backed by the gov of Japan) in the waters of Antartica…while people forget the opposite end of the pole it seems. Im gonna get me a sub, not unlike nemos, and ram those boats. (yes I will save the lives of the people on board, call me Mr. Generous), but putting a dent in their budget (ship wise) will put an end to it. :)
